Ups just brought some of the new Lionel 6-27082 4 bay ACF Hopper cars in the GT road name. The body of this car is Aluminum built on a plastic frame with molded in details on the underside. The trim seems to be plastic with operating top manhole covers. The discharge hoppers are non working. The bearing caps do rotate. The uncouple feature is by a small flat plate trigger mounted under the car between the trucks. That looks a lot better than the round head device we have seen on Lionel cars in the past.
In contrast to the new Lionel Autoracks that feel so light for the size, these Hoppers seem to feel heavier than I had expected. I think they are a very nice addition to my Grain car fleet. I am going to run them for awhile and then decide if I will add a few more cars BUT I DO like these cars.
