Rob, the engine was never run, not one inch. It just didn't run out of the box. Not sure if it had a smoke unit. What it did do as Tiffany found out is fall apart. They made a second run of these engines that were much better. Tiffany, I think I have a weight out of an old Lionel engine if you still need one I will send it. Don
