I am planning on adding a second TPC300 to my layout.

I was in contact with a Lionel technician who told me that as long as I connected the 2 data lines together i should not have a problem. But I was wondering if the COMMs need to be tied together also?

So i drew up a schematic with this explanation of what I am trying to do.

If someone could review it and let me know if it is correct.

The right handles of the Z4000's will operate in command mode when the switch is in the  "closed" position, and operate in conventional when the switch is in the "open" position.

The left handles will run the trains in conventional mode with the the Lionel Legacy Remote through the TPC300's.

Sorry for the crappy drawing.

Thanks!!

The Lionel Command base Cable (6-14191) is hooked to the Command base right bottom of picture.  That cable connects to the Right TPC along with daisy chained (Blue-Blue/White) Cat5 twisted pair telephone wire, that connects to the Left TPC.  There is a loop of Cat5 twisted pair telephone wire to each device, (2) BPC's Block Power Controllers (Left in picture near the PH 135's), and (6) ASC's Accessory Switch Controllers (Above the silver TPC's . (10) devices hardwired to the older Command Base.

Note the green, green white twisted pair wire and the blue, blue/white twisted pair wires that loop (daisy chain) to all the Dat and Comm terminals.

The last device on the Dat/Comm daisy chain loop is the lower right ASC.  There is only one wire.

so will my set up work?

I think I follow you Z4000 handle discussion, but note that the TPC can be programmed to work either:

conventional Program TR, #, M, Set  with the PRG/RUN switch to PRG

command Program TR, #, L, Set  with the PRG/RUN switch to PRG

from fixed power sources, PH 135 shown in my pictures,  or the Z4000's with the handles open/set to the desired track voltage.  At that point you are running either Conventional or command via the Cab1 hand held/TPC.
