Objective: Make a layout that can fit a small space and make a fun layout.

Here are some things you need to take note of:

  • I have NO idea how industries work, please explain it to me.
  • I am only going with O36 track because I think it is best for a beginner like me!
  • I don't need to worry about curves because I am only running Lionchief engines!
  • I am using Lionel's "Fastrack" system.
  • I am trying to go cheap here, I don't want a layout that costs more than $700 (The estimated price of the layout is $492)
  • I am not good at "Railroad Vocabulary", It took me a bit to realize what spur track meant.
  • I am new to O-Gauge Railroading. (9 months)
  • I am using RailModeller 4.1.11 for tracks.
  • I am using Paint X for "scenery". (a free drawing software for mac.)
  • I don't want anything larger than a 6 x 9 layout.
  • The switches are O36.
  • I measured the layout, It can fit a 4 x 8 table, so I am prepared to get a table.
  • The layout is called "Rangefield Railway 2.0. (RRR)" , Tell me you thoughts about the name!
  • That name was based of the neighborhood I lived at, Rangefinder.
  • like to use "Amazon" and my local hobby shop "HobbyTownUSA"  for buying train supplies.
  • There is some "kink"  in the switches, not really worried about it.
  • I'm not sure about a Tunnel, I tried adding a tunnel on one of my old layouts:

Ashland O Gauge Route [OLD)

  • For right now, I'm not interested in adding extra accessories.
  • I am probably staying with "Fastrack".
  • I tried my best to add curvature to the roads in this 4 x 9 Fastrack Plan.
  • I added a Inner Passing Loop.
  • I'm ok with the sidings, they are long enough for my rolling stock.
  • I can only run 1 train at a time, I'm ok with that.
  • I do plan on having 2 Lionchief engines.
  • I don't want to change to "TMCC" and "LEGACY".
  • I noticed there was a track glitch on the track plan, I'm not to worried about it.

I spent a lot of time making this.

Please give feedback, and thank you!

This here's my all-time favorite 4x8 FasTrack plan.  Don't remember where I saw it but I copied it into SCARM.  It meets your requirements and then some.  Got a nice flow to it.

My all time favorite as well. Original is from O Gauge Rail-Roading issue 275, January 2015. Designed by Ken Hoganson, p. 40ff. I plan on swelling the plan to fit a 6x11 area as soon as my shed is finished.

If you get the itch to expand, you can add another 4x8 and Ken has a few track plans to expand the Cisco into a larger L. He also has a 4x10 called the Nickel Plate Road that adds quite a bit into an extra two feet. The layout itself is quite a bit different but it’s a good next level up for only a little extra space.
