i got an email from a Virginia Transportation Museum employee today.

"Hi Kevin,

I’m sorry I missed your call. I was out in the rail yard with the 611. They coaled her today and are in the process of getting her fired up. Tomorrow she runs through some tests and on Thursday she will be steaming down to North Carolina. In NC she will get her federal inspections and some other repairs, then she will be ready for excursions. So exciting! I know you’d love to see this!"

All you lucky locals, get out on Thursday and take some video and post it to YouTube please! It's going to be neat to see her steam in the cold weather.

Want to ride that thing some day.

Sure wish she was coming through Erwin TN on the way to NC. Right now we have some deep snow on the ground and still falling .

It would be a hell of a picture coming through the old CSX maintenance yard.

I would still be down there with my camera just to see that.

If you google N&W 611 facebook there is a short video of the fire up at VMT today. I also came across a Scott Lindsey photo of the new wheels mounted on the engine truck, awaiting installation (might have been on the NWHS page).

Excellent to see her getting out, and to have the engine truck repairs completed. The excursions this year should be a lot of fun for all.

Any truth to those Facebook comments that it now has the correct whistle?

I wasn't "hearing it" in that video but of course that video is short, maybe not up to full steam yet?
