What a terrific hybrid. I am guessing we wont be seeing any manufacturers jumping to model it..but it would make a great kit bash. In On3...that would be cool.

The radiator's in the smokebox, (hard to see, but there is a screened opening on the smokebox door...) the diesel's in the firebox, chain drive to the rear axle and exhaust shoots out the stack.

 

The locomotive's at Calgary's Heritage Park.  It currently serves as a back-up locomotive for their two ex-US Army 0-6-0's (lettered Canadian Pacific...)

The more I looked at that picture the more I wondered what kind of horsepower the engine driving that would need not only to pull itself but to have enough left over to pull a consist. What kind of transmission is there? I would think it would be diesel powered.

The more I looked at that picture the more I wondered what kind of horsepower the engine driving that would need not only to pull itself but to have enough left over to pull a consist. What kind of clutch | transmission is there?  That really is different.

It must also run the air brake system I would think. Steam power would seem to be simple compared to this...depending on expertise no doubt about that. At least it isnt hand cranked.
