Tempting, very tempting ... is this the only "Big E" train show this year or are there other events later on?

Thanks,

Once a year only.  Biggest train show in New England, Evan without Eddie attending.  LOL. Lots of smaller shows but no where the size.

Gary,

Thanks.  I will definitely have to think about this for sure. :-)

Making the trip from Allentown, Pa. for sunday. My first time to this show, are my directions good. 78 east to 287 north to 684 north to 84 east to 91 north into mass, take exit 3 to rte 5 north to 147 west. Is there a toll each way for the tappan zee bridge, have not crossed that since 2005. Any one know the cost for a car, any tolls on 91. I never been any farther than hartford on 84.

There is a toll going north/east on the Tappan Zee bridge. There are no toll booths. It either scans EZ Pass or scans your license and sends you a bill in the mail. There is no toll on the Tappan Zee on your return trip.

It is sort of neat to see the construction of the new bridge which will replace the Tappan Zee right next to it.

BTW, the CORRECT name is the Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee bridge. He was Rockefeller's Lt. Governor and might have even been Governor of NY for a short while. Its amazing the way politicians think they were ever really popular enough to get their names on things that we pay for.

Pete:

Your directions seem fine.  You didn't say when  you were traveling, but if it's Friday night and you'd like to avoid metro NY in its entirety, you might alter your route to travel north to pick up I84 sooner in PA or NY State and cross the Hudson over the Newburgh Bridge instead of the Tappan Zee.  Such an approach will add about 15 minutes to your trip, but if you're traveling during a rush hour, you'd lose that to traffic anyway.  If you're leaving at 5 in the morning on Saturday or Sunday, your planned route is the best.

There are no tolls on I-91.  As Gerry notes, there is a toll on the Tappan Zee.  There's also one on the Newburgh bridge.

HTH.

Ok I've been getting emails on a few things.  Figure I'd post them here.   Here is a link to the Viaduct rebuilding on I91 in springfield.   Check for exit closures

As for parking at the Big E.  It's better if you are coming from the east(heading west from Springfield) on Memorial Dr to pass the first parking entrance which I think is Gate 9.  Go past most of the big E, pass the Storrow Town entrance and take a left into Gate 1.  Park around one of the buildings.

Are there two announcements for this event on the forum?  I posted an inquiry this AM about possible meeting spots/times for forum members and I was also looking for a map showing what vendors will be in which of the four buildings.  (No response so far, which is unusual for you guys. Other than a list of vendors, I found no further details on the Amherst RS nor Big-E websites.)  Do they give you vendor maps at the gate?

I will gas up the ride and get some cash after work this evening, and hopefully will make my way to the Big E tomorrow (Saturday).  It would be fun to say "hi" to some of you and check it out, but it means blowing off a day for schoolwork -- oh my, decisions, decisions! :-).

Last that I heard, we are meeting at the OGR booth in the Better Living Center at 2pm for a group photo.

Gary.  You gave away my Gate 1 parking secret!  Except, I travel in from Agawam and go over the Westfield River towards Gate 1.
