An OLD Forum Feature Becomes NEW Again!

Thank you so much for bringing this back.  I was talking with Alan Arnold about that feature only last week, telling him how much I missed it.

Thanks Rich. I've missed it also.

It's obvious that they've (Hoopla) been counting this somewhere as the threads views on many of the subjects reflect that. It's thread view and not actual post counts that is tracked. 

 

Thanks For the upgrade. 

The view counter has been recording page views from day one, but they had not written anything into the code to DISPLAY it anywhere.

 

They have now done that and we can see the post counts again.

I always enjoyed knowing that number.  Thanks to whomever for making it reality again!

ps. I use Firefox - latest edition, and the top advertisers section doesn't show up.  I get 4 blue bars in a box across the top, but no advertisers show up.  I like Firefox, hoping that if they know about it, they can fix it!  Thanks!

 

ED:  I use the same version of Firefox as you have referred to and do not have that problem.  I have checked with many folks and they too do not have a problem.  Just so you know...perhaps a setting on your computer needs to be adjusted or a call into Firefox support is in order.

Now we can make spread sheets and pie charts and bask in our own popularity.

I myself like it as to it provides that this is or is not a relevant topic that I need to dig deeper into to make sure I understand it and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that comes to us here.

 

I know I do review posts but always do not comment unless I feel it might provide information that might be deemed important, otherwise, I will "like" it and follow it to see how the conversation and information continue.

I always felt this was a nice feature and am glad to you have facilitated its return.

Question: does the post counter start at zero as of now or does it account for all posts from the past?

There were many who disliked the new (Hoopla) forum. It took a little time to get used to it. Now we're getting back a missed feature.....Hot Doggie .

Lee:  when you and I talked, I was not aware that this was going to happen so soon thus the reason why I mentioned to you that Hoopla had control over it.  Looks like it got done...perhaps your wish was our command???...

And you can increase your count by logging out and then logging back in and clicking on the post again!

I now find myself going through all of my favorite threads that I've bookmarked to see how many views they got.  Anyone else do the same thing?  HaHaha.  

Oh my, I was thinking no one was reading my posts on what I was doing and how I did it. Looks like I was very wrong. Now I will need to find the camera and start doing some updates.

I have also missed this feature.

Congratulations of bringing back the Post Counter.

 

The programmers have done an excellent job in writing the program codes, for all the functions in this Forum.

Glad it is back.

That's good Rich.  It will help give a much better perspective on each thread.

 

An example is this thread on the 3-Rail Scale section.  People have said there isn't any interest in better 3 rail track.  There wasn't many posts in this thread, but look at all the views.

Um, am I missing something here?

 

The thing in Rich's post that the arrow is pointing to displays as the number of views, so is it a view counter or a post counter?

 

A Firefox addon is probably blocking the forum adds. In FireFox, select "Help | Restart with Add-on Disabled ..." to see what happens.

You have Ad-Blocker+ (or similar) installed

I like this feature because it shows what interest others have in various topics.  It also makes clear a surprising fact  an OGR staff member was telling me on the phone a while back: many more people view threads than every post (I suspected that), and many many more people view the forum than are members (that is a surprise) about two times as many apparently as actually join.  It is just stunning how big and popular model railroading is, -- this forum represents it well.

       
       


But is it really all people?  The spider bots that crawl the web looking for email addresses might be counted as well, no?
