After my other post on finding a new Lionel Postwar favorite engine and running my 2 NW2 switchers it seems to me that these are pretty big, especially in regards to traditional postwar rolling stock. So how close are NW2 switchers to being considered scale? I read many sites and reviews stating that the newer style NW2 switchers were considered low quality like my 600 and 610 units. I must admit that maybe for the time they might have disappointed someone but I am really impressed. I do like them.

One last question would be which Lionel engines in the postwar years were considered to be close to scale?

Thoughts?

Hmm it's my understanding that Lionel's NW2's (all of them) are approximately scale-sized.  The die-cast frames on the original issues like #6220 were better looking, especially when the loco is viewed head-on.  But all of them are about the same size.

The reason these switchers appear "big" is that many of Lionel's other locos, rolling stock and accessories were NOT to scale, and actually scale out somewhere between O & S.
