Would not hurt to ask Hoop.la if they have some way to stop unsolicited emails, similar to YT and other social media sites.

A word of explanation...

By "unsolicited emails" we don't mean automated emails sent by the typical spammer. We are talking about unwanted emails sent by one member to another. The process you have illustrated won't stop those.

I am going to keep my email address in my profile.

Hi Rich:

Thanks for answering my question. I understand this issue, but I am going to leave my email address in my profile, the most common email I get from fellow OGR Members are questions about one of my You Tube Videos.  If someone became a problem engineer, I would mark it as spam on my end and my email provider would then block them. I have never received unsolicited emails from a fellow member or from an OGR Sponsor.

P.S. - The best thing about the OGR Forum is that the CEO and Publisher will talk to the members. That would never happen on YT. lol

Gary,

There is already a system for private communication in place for digital subscribers, however it is not accessible for those that are not subscribers.  I have no idea if other folks use the private message function, but for me, I just use email for contacting others.  For the most part I just put it out there that my email is public in whatever posts I think a private conversation might be helpful in.  Thus far I do not believe anyone has used the private message function to contact me.

I also use several different email addresses:  One to which all of my online accounts are linked for "official" correspondence, password recovery and such.  Another for friends and family, one for my business partners for "official" business email, a second business email for contact with clients and customers.  My latest account is used only for the OGR forum, to which all of the automatic emails as well as any private conversations with other forum members ends up.

I find it useful to have several email addresses like this to keep various unrelated interests separate.

Hi John - I do the same thing, I also have several email addresses and some are with Comcast. I give Comcast my junk stuff, so if I stop paying Comcast, It does not matter if those emails go away. I have two cable companies in my neighborhood, and every time the other company comes around, Comcast / Xfinity, lowers their rates.

Congrats!  This forum is fantastic and though I don't post all that much I love reading all the information, especially 3 Rail, DCS and Buy/Sell.   OGR deserves a lot of credit for this great 'institution' for us O gauge guys!!  I have received more help, faster than I could ever get from a hobby shop even if I lived next door!!
