If you mean that the NSA requires a data feed from Apple and Google, you are probably correct.
Apple and Google collect all sorts of data on their own, and markets it.

So, what's wrong with that? ...... some of that data could be used to select targets for identify theft, or for all sorts of other scams.
Despite my caution, I usually get several phone calls a day.

C W Burfle probably the price they were selling them for would probably be the first tip, then unboxed items most people keep the boxes for their Lionel and MTH stuff. the big blue tub was to take items they stole out in.

and the biggest tip would be bringing mommy with every time they came. how many adult young men bring their mommy with them???? i'm surprised mommy didn't want to entertain the 'mark' while baby boy was stealing stuff.

Well he wasn't buying cheap stuff for his collection was he.  One look at this pair in possession of some valuable stuff that he could not find elsewhere is the first clue. No he knew the source was questionable.  We are not dealing with a newbie victim here. They only took 64000 worth of his collection until finally he missed something.  He knew.

Hello C W Burfle........

Not really, they (NSA) will snoop on ANYONE even myself if we dare to go against our corrupted government or stand up to it and when that happens, they use the data collected and use it against us to get us arrested and put in prison for make up charges or worse dead. Have you seen the movie called "1984" well we are getting there and noticed NO model trains.  Its the internet that gave NSA power and WE have the power to take it away but choose not to. We all would better off without computers ,oh those were the good old days (no computers). There are some folks here that get the trills of

running trains with computers, cell phones .

Most American believe that people we meet and deal with are trustworthy. However, most of the people we meet are not.

So far nothing has been stolen( that I know of) but everything of value is locked up behind thick glass panels with trigger and shatter sensors tied to my ADT system.

I have a wire-tripped rotating gun but its not set up yet.

I feel secure.

So I typed in the victim's name on Google and came up with an address in Parlin, NJ which is in Sayreville Boro. Any train or other thief can do this now that it's publicly known this retired (old?) guy has a fortune in trains all over his house. Worse is that the article mentions York! A few more clicks of the mouse and a crook looking for a new source of revenue will find out you don't need two signatures to hit the place! Interesting that there's another thread going about signing posts with first names. I wouldn't even use my initials.

There's been a black helicopter buzzing around my house the past few days and my tinfoil hat is missing.

Should I be worried?

Simply put friends, be very careful who you bring into your life.

That said Keep your shelf space full and always be on the look out for empty spaces that you can't remember removing the item from.

Also, keep the collection neat and orderly and use an inventory software to keep track of your items.

Motion detector driven video cameras connected to your computer from which images  can be recorded is not a bad idea. Remember though these systems can be hacked, unencrypted electronics have been known to become a real Trojan Horse to any home security system.

Simply put these are things we should never have to do, but the world being what it is we might as well learn to make security a part of the fun.

Occasionally, I'll let Chugman or Attic Trains in to see my layout but I watch them like a hawk. I have cameras set up around the layout taking hidden videos that I later put on YouTube.

Alan,

I wouldn't be too worried about Art or Stan... but that guy Jack they have been known to travel with.. he deserves some closer scrutiny..

hello guys and gals............

If you guys are worried about anyone stealing your train collection then either get rid of expensive trains or make changes to the train like fixed pilots on diesels or repaint to different road names anything to reduce the value of it of the ones you do want to keep.  You can get rid of original boxes and use other boxes to store the heavy engines.  I made major changes on my sunset 3rd S.F.5011 in drive train, drawbar and tender pick ups including sound systems I don't use and use of J B weld so now this engine is well marked.  This engine is my most expensive one but anyone steals it as they cannot sell it enough to make profit from it because it is marked.  It is well used now but still a good runner.  I purchased Williams Santa Fe F-3's and made changes on it like fixed pilots and the Amtrak aluminum cars are being repainted to Santa Fe colors so they are no longer worth anything as they are not original anymore.  Where we live, the whole neighbor knows us and we know them so that helps.  I know how to use a marble roller pin as it is made of stone and quite heavy so how many lumps you need

I suppose we won't see more details until a court case shows up, but this whole affair seems strange.

This appears to be a calculated long term con by a couple of cold people thinking they had a mark. What were they using as the "stock items" to offer for sale in order to case and steal the main collection?

Was there more than one person being stolen from here, or could this have been a hastily contrived scheme once the first sale was made? As William Shatner sez, "Weird or what?"

While emptying out boxes and leaving them behind may of been a bit hard to notice. The fact that it took soooooo long for this fella to discover such just blows my mind.

Fascinating how these crooks just continued to return over and over again never having the smarts enough to know when to give it up.  But nobody ever said that greedy thieves were smart. So I guess it was a good thing that he did in fact finally discover such and that they were stupid enough to continue long enough to finally get caught red handed.

hello guys...........

The internet is much WORSE than that, it allows NSA to snooping private parties. The computer is really a enemy of mankind, it gives the government too much power to abuse. We all are paying for internet services giving permission to NSA to snoop us.

Its a matter of time before the computer can think for itself if some fool have not invent it already. OK, enough of that let move on.

Buy stock in Alcoa - sales of tinfoil are skyrocketing.

All of this conspiracy theory and "people are worse these days" stuff amuses me.

As Franklin said, "three people can keep a secret if two are dead".  And people aren't any better or worse than they used to be - we just have greater ability to know about what's going on.

Problem with alot of "smash grab and take" thieves is they don't know what they have or differentiate stuff just grab it and go.  So mom and kid probably wouldn't know or care a diesel has a steam engine pilot or its painted Rock Union Atlantic Trailways
