Lionel does not look kindly upon leaks. Just ask some of the dealers here that jumped the gun the last few years. I doubt those that know will talk.

Yes. Some dealers apparently posted pricing and pictures of products before the catalog came out!

It always seems to work that by the time I acquire a certain something I have been looking for ... for a very long time... Lionel re-releases it.

Let's see - this year I finally found some Rock Island E6's, Burlington E5's. Some Union Pacific F3's, and a Die cast UP turbine.

I am betting the UP F3's will be re-issued...  And with my luck some Vision Line E6's will be produced...

Good point, Marty.  Lionel has enough challenges providing accurate information about ALREADY-ANNOUNCED products, so it's quite likely not too many Lionel folks know anything about UNANNOUNCED products!

David you need to apply for the CEO job.  Maybe get Mike Reagan kicked out and take over for him.  I'm sure you'll have all their woes fixed in an hour after you show up. Seriously I think you could turn that place around.

"Bullet proof products for the pieces we are paying for them!"

NASA does not even get bullet proof  for the price they pay, what makes you think we can get it for the price we pay?

Right now, NASA is working on taking 3D printers into space for, wait for it... fixing the things that break or ware out.

Anybody attending the IMTS show in Chicago next month will get an eye full of really great products (and ideas) as to where 3D Printing is going. Think way more the just plastic!

Marty, Mike Reagan isn't the problem (as I'm sure you know).  He's a sharp cookie.  But in general, ya gotta admit we don't always get the most accurate information when asking Lionel questions about products in the catalog.  Accurate communication is not the company's strong suit.  Sometimes we can reach somebody who actually knows what's going on for an acccurate answer, and other times we need to wait for a product's arrival here in the States to see what's been manufactured before getting the real answer.

Probably would take more than an hour to fix though.  Perhaps a day or two at the most!

A prime example is the "other road numbers" versions of the UP FEF-3 models that were SUPPOSED to have the Sellers Exhaust Steam Feedwater system, that was SPECIFICALLY spelled out in the catalog. When the models arrived, they were all incorrect and not a single word of explanation.

Probably would take more than an hour to fix though.  Perhaps a day or two at the most!

A little birdie dropped by. A New York Central birdie. And . . . . . the birdie said he had just flown in over the falls.

"Which falls?" I asked. "Why, Niagara," said the birdie. "Well," said I, "That will be your Legacy, you're a northern birdie."

A Niagara will be a instant buy as long as it comes in around the 1350 area. If it's over 1500 they can keep it.

Not too sure it would fall into the "instant buy" category at $1350 (street) for me, which is pretty much where the FEF-3 landed pricewise during pre-orders.  Funny how Lionel has already aclimated our thinking that $1350 is an OK price for a non-articulated steam loco, when a couple years ago I paid that for the Legacy Y6b.

No... If a Niagara does get announced and pre-order prices congregate around $1350, I'll pass and just wait until delivery... Then maybe jump at a 15% off sale that seems to be happening about every other month theses days!

It's much more fun to go on a shopping spree when prices are lower, rather than get played by all the BTO pre-order hype surrounding a new catalog's release.

Above: "I would love a New Haven EP-5 with Legacy. It has never been done and they have the old K-Line tooling. It was nice when K line made it, but I missed the boot and now the electronics are to out of date."

Not as long as they work...

But, that's OK; this point of view can create secondary market (or NOS!) bargains for many of us who are not overly interested in swinging whistles and...ah, you know the drill.

What's even more funny is that, from what I've gathered, there is actually very little difference in the cost to produce a small engine vs. a large engine. They are simply playing to the "bigger is better" mentality of O gauge buyers. There is a perceived increase in value proportional to the increase in size of the model.

I always get excited when it's time for the New Lionel Catalog. Although it gets released on Line first, there simply is nothing better than sitting in the Lazy Boy and looking Page by Page at All the Offers, Pictures, Ideas, Engines, Cars, Accessories, and New Goods.  Yes, I am still a Little Boy at Heart....Wow! Great Question, Happy Railroading...

Nothing better than standing in my Hobby Shop, licking my finger flipping the pages.  By then, it is the third or fourth time I've "seen" the catalog, but I don't care.  It's just so nice to get lost in print like that hanging out with the Hennings Family and some other Hennings Trains regulars.
