Ok. I believe the catalog is a winner;

1st - K4 with the long haul tender , sold one here.

2nd- looks like the UP and other passenger cars will have lowered bodies.  ORDERED A set!

3rd -Track side details are great. Will order some of these.

4th - I like that Lionel will continue making the pennsy hoppers. This way sellers cannot gouge us when trying to make a long consist for the layout

5th - Like the company houses.  I will buy a few of these.

6th- The playground animated accessories are cool. Like the the tire tree swing.

Realistically, the chances of that happening are on the remote side of remote. However, if Lionel is of a mind to make another WWII in the Pacific boxcar, it would be appropriate to make it a Battle of Midway commemorative car. This was one of the most decisive naval engagements in history. It was the most important naval battle of WWII, and the turning point of the war in the Pacific.

Curiously, all of these cars are commemorating events involving the Navy and the Air Corps, only remotely connected to MacArthur. Perhaps an "island hopping campaign" boxcar would be in order?

MacArthur was very well known by military reputation and by strong public relations during the 30's in the Southeast Pacific. After Pearl, the American name change from Mikado to MacArthur for this popular 2-8-2 made sense. Halsey, Nimitz, Chesty Puller and others were all rising stars at the beginning of WWII, but not at the same level as our American Caesar, MacArthur. Personally, I hope Lionel does a "fleet" of WWII rolling stock from both, European and Pacific, theaters of operation, what fun that would be to have on our train board.

MacArthur was indeed into public relations. His ego was legend. The famous return to the Philippines shot of him walking through the surf was carefully staged and photographed like a movie scene, for example. Not a pleasant personality to work for.

Agree it would be interesting to have a WWII boxcar series. Certainly at least need a D-Day car.

And even Patton did not want to go to the Pacific Theater because of him!

Midway was important.  But the Doolittle Raid had an emotional effect on Japan.  They thought the "Home Islands" were safe from ANY American raid.  He also proved join service operation:  US Army Air Force Bombers flying off Navy Flat Tops!

However, what Doolittle really pushed was better fuels for US military airplanes, from what I have read.

Now, will I buy a WWII box?  Maybe, depending on the battle.

Also, A V for Victory car.  Does V in CW/International Morse.

Here's a really dumb question....

Subject: LionScale...purchasing individual cars.

So, how would one go about ordering only 1 or 2 of these cars in a particular style/roadname?  The stock numbers in the catalog refer only to the complete 6-packs...and the hefty price thereof.  The catalog sez they're available individually.

??????

I know, I know....a phone call to Lionel is in order.  Just thought there might be someone out there with their forum-ears on who has the answer.

Anyone?

No,....not the price.  The stock number by which you order just 1....or 2....or 3....or?

By the catalog's format, if I order 3-16080, I'll get 6 C&O 3-Bay offset hoppers.  If I only want a couple of this car style, how do I order?   AND, how would I ensure that both cars are NOT of the same car number????

????

KD, again.

Hey Lionel, how about re releasing the Rotary Coal Tipple?? You keep making the rotary coal cars...make the accessory and stop beating a dead horse with the other accessories...

Mark,

Have a listen to the full Notch 6 catalog show. Mike and I discuss the accessory at length. The short answer is that every vendor that they show the tooling to does not want to touch the project due to the complexity. More info in the show.

That is ridiculous. BRING IT BACK HERE THEN AND MAKE IT IN THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no product number for individual cars.

I had asked this question. Through Lionel, only 6-packs can be ordered. If you want individual cars, you order them through dealers. I know I've seen ads through Ro and maybe Nassau. They will sell them individually.

How many modelers could then afford to purchase it??????

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be willing to spend $1200 or whatever on a tipple made in the USA...

You know that's what it would cost to do here.

Are they just broken up 6 car sets or other different numbers than the ones in the 6 car set?

They're broken up 6-packs, but each car will be packaged in its own box.

Hi Lionel,

Good catalog, not the best, not the worst, next steps is to see what the budget allows for.  However, I do have one problem that should be pointed out.  First off, I'm not a publisher and I usually just chuckle at mistakes I see in print or online, but this one is a little larger and comes with an offer.  I would be glad to offer to proof read the next catalog before it goes online or to the printer so the following errors might be uncovered and corrected before it is published (at least online) and I promise not to tell anyone on this forum what it contains.  :-) Email in profile.

Wow, I think this is one of the Nicest Lionel Volume 2 Catalogs to date. The front cover, with the 3 beautiful engines is really eye catching and Inviting. The Lionel Team seems to be listening to our needs with lower price points, really nice looking scale Locomotives. The Y6B Weathered Locomotive looks Awesome. Their pictures look so much better. Yes, there is much duplication from Volume 1, and last years 2015's Volume 2 Catalogs, like Sound Freight Cars, Operating Crane Cars, Rolling stock, etc. However there are new items listed for those expanding their Pikes, and of course New Comers to the Hobby.  I am glad they are issuing new SD45's Road Specific Diesels, and Wow, the NW2's, look really nice.  These engines should be reasonable if BTO pricing is possible with our individual Hobby Shops.  I appreciate Lionel's efforts and am proud to buy their Legacy Locomotives. Now, back to the New Lionel Volume 2, 2016 Catalog.

Lionel doesn't update there list in my opinion often enough.  I've been waiting on some cars that were due in July but it's now Sept.  When I asked Lionel they didn't have a clue when they would be in but the schedule still has them listed for July 2016   So I wouldn't trust that shipping schedule.

Lionel16,

At this time, I don't think Lionel has given their dealers any indication of 2016 Volume 2 newly-catalog'd product arrivals other than "2017".  There's a ton of stuff from 2016 Volume 1 still due in 2016, and a few of those items are starting to show ETA's into 2017.  So I think you'll have plenty of time to save those pennies!

It was the exact same way with volume 1. There is no error.

The 60' boxcars in this catalog have been in previous catalogs. Until now I did not check to see if some of the paint schemes taken from real cars were Pullman-Standard or American Car & Foundry 60' boxcars.

The Rock Island 60' Boxcar has the road number from an ACF 60' boxcar. If the people at Lionel had done a little bit more research they would have discovered that the Rock Island did order Pullman-Standard 60' boxcars in a series immediately after this number series. Close on the graphics. They removed the ACF lettering, but did not put Pullman-Standard builder's lettering on the cars.

The Norfolk & Western seems to have only had ACF 60' boxcars in the 600 900 series. The ACF lettering was not included in the markings.

Is this just a case of trying to be true to their predecessors by only being close to accurate.

They have the Burlington Northern 60' boxcar. They have never had the Pullman-Standard built Northern Pacific, Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, and Great Northern 60' boxcars produced. What are they waiting for? A special pre-merger train set?

The recent FEF-3 detail issues have really cooled any interest I would have in commiting to buy any new Lionel regardless of price, until after seeing the actual delivered product.

Sometimes I think people are seeing things that aren't there when in reality they are re-manufacturing the same previously tooled products. They just replace the electronics, upgrade the sound, and maybe add an extra smoke gadget.  And that's ok,  We get something we missed out on a while back and they can make a decent buck. (If it is done right or previous egregious errors are corrected).

This could be a good thing for something like the Niagara because we've seen it before.  An actual previous positive example of this was the recent 4-12-2 re-release.

If they are going to restore some goodwill they are going to have to deliver a real winner.  I think they're capable of it (Milwaukee Rd 261 comes to mind). I'll wait and see.

and since it was a sell out (MR 261) and still in demand, why has it not been reissued?

Seems like a no brainer along with the diecast EVO
