Here is a tank car I picked up as part of a mixed lot from an online auction. It is made of styrene except for the walkways, which are brass. I am thinking it is scratchbuilt, but I am also thinking it must have been awfully difficult to fabricate those rings, so maybe it is a kit? I Googled it and found some pictures of Overland brass models in 0 and HO, but no prototype photos. The trucks are kind of unfortunate - they should be roller bearing, but they mount from the top and it looks like whoever built the car attached the trucks to a mount and then glued the mount in place with no way to access the mounting screw.

So, what can somebody tell me about this car, model and prototype both? Any ideas for a source for matching walkway material in brass, or plastic ladder stock? As you can see, a piece of walkway and one end ladder are missing. Doesn't look like too much of a problem to fix if I can get the right materials. And one more thing - is there such a thing as ULTX, or was a dyslexic model builder trying for UTLX?

You may want to try and contact an HO modeler named Bobby Pitts.  His username on various forums is "Tankcarsrule" and he is clearly a big fan.  He has scratchbuilt several tank cars including the same or similar cars as the one you picture.  He shows up in Google searches but here is a link to his Flickr page where his work is on display.

At a minimum I know he is a member on the Atlas Rescue Forum and the Diesel Detailers Board.  Somewhere online he has discussed his construction methods for the Liquified Argon cars.
