"I want to get an MTH steel caboose painted up in the Camp Pendleton Desert Storm paint scheme. Anybody recommend somebody that does great work?"
Maybe check an armor modeler's site? .......DaveB
Truly great work will probably cost you more than the caboose cost originally.
How much are you willing to part with............
Matt,
Try Harry Hieke.....he did my K4 can't see why he couldn't do a caboose.

"I'll throw a couple hundred bucks at this one"
Do you have a photo of what you want it to look like? Camp Pendelton desert storm camo might just be a coat of hastily applied tan paint and wiping off the windows when done? I'd do that for less than $200 :> ........DaveB
I would recommend Tommy Gilbert in Gettysburg. He painted my Weirton Steel Alco S-2 switcher (formerly a Lionel Western Pacific). He also modified the stack to be prototypical. I'm sure a caboose would be no problem.

Matt,
Honestly, that would be a good starting point. A prototypical job could run at least a buck and one-half more. It's really a question of what do you expect (exactly)?
This looks like a santa fe Ce-1 coupala caboose but I dont know enough to say for certain. but I want it to look like the real deal

Could be, it's a rebuilt car with some windows welded over and cushion draft gear. The model drawing below is a different class, note the cupola windows are at the ends of the cupola sides instead of in the middle like on the real car, the model car also has older draft gear. So when looking for your model to paint make sure it's "modernized" or "rebuilt" or something similar, and make sure the cupola windows are the correct version as they are hard to move( done it a couple of times and didn't enjoy it) .....DaveB
