Anyone worked on a MTH Railking Berkshire 30-1521-1

The manual should say what type of battery it is. Is it PS2? There is most likely only 4 screws that hold the shell on. Piece of cake to take it off and put it back on

It's a 2.4V 2-cell battery.  As stated, it's a piece of cake to open it up to change the battery if necessary.

 

From the manual...

 

If the sounds are not improved at the end of the 15-minute test charge,
it is time to replace the battery. Available through M.T.H. Parts:
® (Item No. 50-1024) AA NiCad Proto-Sound Battery (Blue Casing)
® (Item No. BG4000004) AAA NiMH Proto-Sound Battery (Green Casing)

is a bcr available for this?

 

that is what I would put in.

There are BCR models for both the 2.4V and 9V batteries, so that answer would be yes.

"Safety reasons"? What "safety reasons"? Has it gotten to this that we can't open up a little model choo-choo for "safety reasons"? This is how we learn. It's a model. Oy.

It may have been for the safety of the choo-choo electronics.

 

Thank you guys, I have never opened an MTH Loco before whetehr it is the tender or the locomotive because I have a certified repair person, that works on all my locos. I will have the guts to open the locomotive and change the battery. BCR might happen

Tim next time I go down there, I'll bring you a replacement battery to put in there. We can do it while Im there, only takes a couple minutes.

Opening the locomotive will be an exercise in futility, the battery is in the tender.
