From what I've read they first ones delivered with silver paint, but over a short period of the the silver faded.  So the remaining units were painted imitation aluminum (Southern used this color as well).

Glad you've all enjoyed it so far! It's always fun to tie in something railroad related with silly viral things on the internet.

This whole subject was discussed at great length within the past month, here on this forum.

The first order of units were delivered in "Nickel", which was actually a metallic silver paint. That color was SERIOUSLY affected by the chemicals used to wash the passenger equipment, within just a few months. The second order of PA units were subsequently delivered in the "Aluminum Gray" color normally associated with NKP Alco PA units. Within less than one year, all the early PA units, as well as any passenger equipment had that metallic silver "Nickel" paint, were all repainted to the "Aluminum Gray" color.

Thus, if you are modeling NKP prior to 1949, you could possibly see one of the "Nickel" painted, low road number PA units.
