Atlas Bulkhead Flat with Wrapped Hampton Lumber Load..

Maybe Atlas modeled their car after a real one. May times the wrapped bundles of lumber or plywood are not all right-side-up during the loading process.

All of the Atlas O bulkhead flat cars are empty cars.

yes, that is correct FalconService..  I added the lumber load.. the bottom row of lumber is 3/4" ply-wood and the next two going up are balsa..  When researching real loads, I found wraps to be all messed up! off center, off horizontal, upside down, crooked, ripped, etc.. so here is what I modeled after the research..  Dan

Where did you get the artwork?

Are they just printed on plain paper?

Elliot, Coach Joe, All others! Thanks for the kind words.. with that, the wraps are just plain white paper 8.5 X 11 paper and in word, I set up the logo's in word and then printed it.. I grabbed the logos off the net by typing into Google, "_____________ Logo" and the companies logo would show up. Doesn't matter the size, because I grab the logo and save to desk top. then from desk top to word Doc and that is where I size the logo's and copy them over in a straight line.. then print out. then cut to size as a wrap of the lumber load.. 

I have two more cars to do.. Rosenberg and another Hampton Lumber.. In the next builds, I will lay out what I did..

Reviving an old thread just to say thanks to the OP, @BXCXDan.  I’ll be receiving a new I-beam center load flatcar with a load of uncovered cut lumber tomorrow.  Yesterday I passed a train that had the real thing, but the load was covered.  I wondered how to I could do that, came to OGR, did a simple search, and voila!  Doing an internet search for Texas lumber companies I found one that’s only 60 miles away and it has a very nice logo I plan to use.

Just thought I'd include pictures of my work.  I tried to vary the position of the wrap on each, vertically and horizontally.  I also wrapped a half-load on each side to provide some visual contrast.  Below is the first side picture on top, and the second side beneath.  As I gained experience in this 'craft', I got better on each successive wrap.  The second side is much better than the first, but I doubt anyone except me will notice.

For anyone reading this, I found it to be very helpful to put all folds on the wrap before putting it on.  Make sure the folds are very crisp.

I noted some more lumber loads on the local line, and they all had bands around them.  I bought some 1/16" black tape to simulate the bands, and went to look at some real pics to see where the bands were positioned.  In doing so, I saw many wrapped loads with the logo wrap very consistently placed on all the wood loads.  I had to double check to see if they were pictures of models since they were so perfect!  I saw very few pics of a somewhat random placement.  That being said, I'll still stick with my random placement.

Don't forget to look at the same type of load on a flat-bed semi-trailer.

Good suggestion Dave.  I only did 2-3 searches and almost all pics of lumber loads on semi-trailers weren't wrapped, just raw wood.  I did see one where the logo was spray painted on the side of a batch.  I guess it's because the semis are doing local delivery, and trains are hauling them for some distance.

Update to my project.  Before wrapping the bands I had to find some pallets.  The 3d printed ones were just okay.  I found some real wood laser cut pallets here which had to be assembled and glued.  I was very pleased with how realistic they looked, I'd certainly buy them again.  I finished wrapping the bands around the loads sitting on top of the pallets.  I did the best I could to mimic the prototypes where the bands go over the center beam.  I'd give myself a B- or B for this, not my best but I'm happy enough.
