just saw an "arriving soon" ad for the obs and 6-5 sleeper. I have not really looked at these cars since (a) they don't fit my layout and (b) I already have a zephyr.

I was was very surprised to see these cars with Amtrak colors and markings. Were the others like that?

Without completely rifling through the book....

Most of the CB&Q portion of the pool went to Amtrak. Atlas has made every car they've tooled so far in Amtrak colors and they're correct.

The Domes, obs and 1st run 10-6 sleepers were by and large not converted to HEP. Baggage cars were converted. The 16 section cars had been converted to coaches before the end of the CZ and were converted to HEP, as was the Q's second order of 10-6 (Silver Crag and Chasm). The 6-5s were HEP converted and eventually wound up in the auto train (As 11 dbl BR), diners were converted as well. 2 of the diners (S. Restaurant, currently 8504 and S. Diner, currently griddle diner 8551) are still in service.

Rocky made no mention of the cost of labor. But since you brought it up...

When end we run an ad for $15 per hour and we get 100 apps from family supporters, I would agree the economy is still in the tank. Those jobs used to be for starting out.

The CEO of a company has to stay profitable and moving jobs overseas is one of the only ways to do it. If the U.S. gov doesn't take you under, the unions will.

If Lionel trains were still made here, they would be even more expensive.
