Hello whoever you are,

Although I don't have any experience with DCC, and I don't know what a C628 is, I DO have a little experience with speakers and the PFM SSII sound system, and I found that excellent fidelity could be had with a round speaker (from Radio Shack, R.I.P.) the same diameter as a toilet paper tube.

If you tape the speaker onto the end of the cardboard tube, pointing out, and cut the tube as long as you can and still fit into your carbody (pointing down at the tracks), you will get very impressive results.

Isolating the front of the speaker cone from the back of the speaker cone does wonders for the quality and quantity of sound emitted, onaccounta the sound waves from the front aren't able to sneak around to the back of the cone, which effectively cancels out the movement of the cone which drastically affects the quality of sound.

If you can set up and try them both on the bench, you will immediately hear the difference...all from an otherwise worthless tube of cardboard.  I hope you give it a try...

All the best,

I took the fuel take off and measured it.  I decided to go with a 41mm x 71 mm speaker with a custom baffle.  I'm going to use the new ESU LokSound L 4.0.  The 4.0 is probably overkill over the L Select but I like the fact it can automatically switch to AC power if I accidentally leave it on the track when operating DCS.

SW9 speakers are small, there are other speakers.

SW9

I had replaced a speaker in a Atlas SD35.  Completely different speaker. You may want to check Atlas parts for your model, they may have a speaker replacement.

For example purposes, here is a video of an SW9 with the stock speaker and an HO TCS WowSound decoder. At some point I will go back in and try a better speaker, but it doesn't sound too bad right now.
