In the January-June Atlas All-Scales Catalog released by Atlas earlier this year, they announced another run of their Trainman Alco RSD 7-15 Diesel Locomotives. We have been getting calls from people wanting to get theirs on order, so we have added the 3 Rail and 2 Rail versions to our website. These engines are scheduled to ship 1Q2016. The C&O are additional numbers, while the rest are new paint schemes, including a Low Nose version in Santa Fe.

 

The Features include:

ME TOO!!!! Is them the norm for current Atlas locos?? I am conventional and stopped buying new MTH and Lionel when conventional locos were dropped.

My quick research tells me that even though these were delivered with trainphone antennas, by the time this paint scheme was introduced, they had already been removed.

The conventional option in the norm for the Trainman line.

 

I have two of the conventional Chessie GP15's from an earlier run.

     Thanks for the info. The train phone antennas are my favorite detail item on Pennsy diesels and cabin cars. I have skipped buying the Lionel Legacy GP7 engines which did not have them, guess I will skip these too. I just purchased my second PRR RS11 #8631, they have them to my delight.

Talked with Jerry Kimble regarding the PRR version and telephone antennas.... Here's his reply:

 

"Thanks for your question. Our research shows the Pennsylvania Railroad owning 5 RSD7s (road numbers 8606-8610) and 6 RSD15s (road numbers 8611-8616). We have no photographs or written information to support any of these locomotives having a Trainphone antenna installed. While we don’t have photographs of each and every unit our belief is it was never installed on any of these Alco locomotives. If you have a photograph showing otherwise it’s certainly something we’ll give consideration to on a future run.

 

Do know these locomotives have been recently upgraded to now offer operation diesel exhaust and cruise control, which they previously didn’t have at the same price point, thanks."

    Thanks for all the info and the reply from Atlas. I did not realize that these Trainman engines now come with Cruise and Exhaust Smoke which are a real selling plus.

    I do have a book at home with pictures of all RS versions that the Pennsy purchased with details of what added on equipment they had. The only trouble is I have not looked at it for some time and can never find where I put it.

Nice pictures and it does prove the point that at least some of these locomotives had the Trainphone antenna. While it's too late to do anything with our current run of these Trainman RSD7/15s we'll definitely take a look at adding it to a future run. In the mean time this could be a good project for an enterprising individual on the forum, thanks.
