I only added a bit over a pound, and before the weight, it was a bit less than four pounds.  Most similar size diesel/electric locomotives are several pounds more.  With the full cruise commander and the larger motors, I don't see the added weight as an issue.

There's another set on ebay now for anyone still looking #656 and 3 cars.

Note that the set locomotive is a vastly different product.  It has two very small flat-sided starter set motors and basic TMCC using the same board as the ERR Mini Commander II and a cheap sound board.

Here's a comparison of the motors.

Here's a comparison of the TMCC drive electronics.  Of course, the Cruise Commander also has the R2LC installed that is not shown here.

Ditto for the audio, a basic anemic horn/bell board vs. a full RailSounds 5.5 board.

The upgraded model uses the RailSounds powered motherboard to host the RS 5.5 board.

I have the set model which I upgraded to cruise lite.  I used the GG1 RS set in place of the horn / bell board.  The frame and frame parts are basically the same between the two versions.  The trucks have the same part number and it appears the larger motors would be an easy swap.  It is a nice engine as is and pulls 5 MTH Amfleet cars easily up a 2.5% grade.  My next step is to add your motion detector board and eliminate having to use the feature code to turn  down the cab lights.

I'm impressed that it pulls the five cars without issues.  One thing I recommend with the CC-Lite is a PTC in series with the motor to avoid cooking the drivers in the event of a motor stall.  I have about 15 Amtrak passenger cars, I was pulling 11 or 12 of them at one of our modular shows with mine, no problem at all.

I've had several here for repair, and I've replaced two of the RCDR boards that apparently got smoked from overload.  The RCDR is not available from Lionel, but the ERR MiniCommander 2 was a drop-in replacement.

Good point.  Thanks!
