Looks like a miniature, albeit color, O. Winston Link image.  I think you're back to a good start.

Couldn't resist, had to see how it looked in B&W...

 As you're a big representative of what two rail should look like, it's great to have you back!!

I look forward to your posts. It was a loss for everyone in the hobby, when your club layout got torn down. I know there are many more clubs out there. I just don't see the activity here, like yours' did.

Thanks for sharing the photos; I actually prefer the B&W, but like both shots a lot.

I agree with Pingman. I think Black and white is a more complex medium to work in as you are dealing in tone and shading (in my opinion). Look at Ansel Adams' work. I should be able to print like that.

I think the lighting highlight on the loco with the black "night time" background creates the effect resembling a O Winston Link shot... As he used extensive lighting in his night shots.

 

I love the highlight lighting on the loco and the "action", but I'm confused by the lighted hill and cars on an angle. ??? Just train and trees would work better for me.

What I really need to do is get back to painting again. I did this oil on board piece back in 2010.

That's a really nice painting Erik.  I've dabbled in RR painting some years ago but nothing that detailed!  

Being a painter myself, I have to say that this piece is pretty fantastic. Using blacks in such a successful way is by no means an easy thing to do.

Eric, if you didn't mention that the steamer was a painting. I would have thought it was a photo. Totally Fantastic painting....I need a ruler to draw a straight line.....I love B&W photography and the diesel photo looks great. But I must say the color wins photo wins this time for me....

I saw your work at the club.  Great!  One of my daughters is an artist, she does paintings, but most of her work is 3D fantasy for lack of a better term by me.
