I got an e mail from Lionel customer service yesterday that my BigBoy is on its way home!

They didn't mention what was wrong in the e mail but they usually include a detailed description of any work done. It is scheduled to arrive on Monday...I'm looking forward to it!

I received the notification email yesterday as well for my Big Boy, and it also is scheduled for delivery Monday.

UPS came through in a major snowstorm and got my Big Boy home this afternoon not long after Alex received his.

The outer shipping box really took a beating but when I unpacked it the loco box was fine. When I unpacked the loco it was really cold and full of condensation so I let it sit and warm up to room temp before messing with it.

Included with the engine was a message from Lionel customer service that described the problem and what was done to correct it also it had an area for tech comments.

The dead tender was the result of a broken solder joint on the pickup PCB. I have no idea what the PCB is but they said it is repaired. It looks to me though as if they sent back a new tender. There is no evidence of wear on the wheels or the rollers and the screws look un -tampered with.

The note from the tech also "STRONGLY" recommend using Lionel premium smoke fluid for this locomotive, "smoke output is far better than with fluid you are currently using" (Mega Steam Grandpa's pipe smoke)

After testing I am happy to say Lionel did a fine job and everything is working as it should. I did fill all smoke units with Lionel fluid and did notice the blowdown smoke was better than before but couldn't tell the difference in stack or whistle smoke...  All in all I am happy she's home!

Congrats!!

Lionel Customer Service is first rate!!.......glad they have it.

Thanks for the comment on the smoke fluid; while attempting to get my blowdown working again, I think I will give it a shot of Lionel Premium.

Enjoy!!  When I wake up in the morning, I head for my BB and marvel at its functions - a blast on its whistle gets my blood going.  Maybe I should get a life - LOL!

Mine came back yesterday with a brand new chassis and a working headlight this time lol. I was using mth smoke fluid in my BB (which was producing barely any smoke) when it came back with the lionel fluid I saw a big difference. Glad we all got our BB's back from lionel safe and sound.

"You guys are killing me!  We worked yesterday on getting my driveway opened up and it all ready for our next snow tonight.  I am anxious to see this beast in operation so the sooner the better.  Saturday or Sunday?

Now we are talking. Forget the snow when there is a BB in the wings.

You will enjoy it even more when you wait for it more
I have to wait a whopping 28 hrs..its killing me too...

Either day works Art... isn't Sunday the DuPage show? Seeing as you will already be up in the middle of the night to meet for breakfast maybe we should consider then... you make the call.
