I had the pleasure of meeting Andre (River Leaf Models) at York in April.  Had to buy one of his kits to try.  My layout town's business community didn't need a 'Rooming House', but it definitely needed a florist.  My brother-in-law, BJ, owned/operated a florist in the Pittsburgh area before retiring to Florida.  I couldn't resist the alterations.  Otherwise, Andre's kit was a lot of fun to build, and I'll probably find another in October to 'massage'...

Added to Andre's fine kit was the second floor door and outside stairway, scuppers and drains on the rear, roof details including tile caps on the walls, the 'Florist'/front/window signs, striped awning, interior image, interior/entry lights, a bunch flowers and pots inside/out/upstairs windows,...and BJ (Arttista), making a sale.  (In fairness to my b-i-l, he's not, nor ever been, quite that amply girthed!)

It's Spring....flowers are everywhere....even on the layout!

Nice kit, Andre!!!

Thanks, Pete.  ...then my efforts to create such an interior paid off!!

Actually it took me only about 30 minutes to create the interior...everything you see on the other side of the store windows and door.

First of all, the main 'interior' is simply a couple of graphic images taken from an internet search of florist interiors.  Printed on paper, cut out, spray glued to thicker cardboard, placed (bowed) about 3/4" behind the windows...leaving enough room for a couple of LED lights above.

The real 'secret', however, is simply the use of Walthers Scenemaster HO floral/botanicals.  They encompass stock numbers 949-1081 through 1094.  Not all were used in BJ's, but an assortment in both store windows...as well as the small upstairs windows in the building!  (Andre's use of MDF for the walls provides an inherent interior window ledge on which to set a nice potted posey!)

I simply glued a simple shelf at window level inside each of the store windows and then placed (glued) an assortment of the Walthers HO potted plants.  Like I said....fast and effective!

The outdoor containers of flowers are lengths of styrene tubing painted 'metallic', and then stuffed with a variety of JTT Miniatures flowers...again the HO size seemed to work well for this.  Making/painting/drying the containers added another 30 minutes, or thereabouts, but it ALL was fast, easy, and enjoyable.

BTW, as a general tip, the Walthers Scenemaster and JTT Miniature HO potted plants/botanicals are really cool for other O interiors...homes, businesses, etc.  Very inexpensive for the effect.

Also, for those interested, I used one of Woodland Scenics new lighting modules for the building.  Two warm LED's were used to light the store interior, and two nano-LED's (warm) light the upstairs porch light and the light at the store entryway.  The whole module set up (accepting four LED's) is within the building and is easily accessible for dimmer adjustment, etc., under the removable roof.  Again....fast, easy, reasonably priced.

FWIW, always...
