Hi All,

I just purchased a Lionel Legacy GP-7 Diesel yesterday (brand new out of the box: 72-8561-250). Worked fine in the hobby shop although they had it set up in conventional mode. I brought it home and addressed the engine to my 990 system and loaded the module. Everything seemed to be fine until the interior cab light started consistently blinking. Also the rev of the engine sound did not match the speed although I could increase the sound of the engine manually through the 990 system. Everything else seems to be working fine. I use Atlas track and all power connections seem to be fine.

I have reloaded the engine three times and still have the same problem. I believe this engine was first introduced by Lionel in August of 2010. Any ideas out there as to what may be the problem?? Would appreciate any and all ideas and/or suggestions.

Thanks!

JohnJr

Thanks for your reply Forrest. The number of blinks is one per second and it does not stop. By resetting the engine do you mean reprograming the engine? Because if you mean that that is what I have done three times. If that is not what you mean could you explain what you mean by resetting vrs reloading?

Thanks again.

Reset is the 'R' inside a stop sign like shape on the keypad of your cab 2. I just had a similar problem only it was the smoke fan motor which was 3 blinks. I only remember seeing either 1, 2 or 3 blinks in my manual, don't remember seeing constant blinking?

You have an older engine, mine just shipped new from Lionel last week. It was from the 2014 Signature catalog ordered about this time last year, may be some differences?

RoyBoy, I am away from home right now but will try out your suggestion--thanks!

rtr12, I was told that because this engine is a 2010 it does not have the same type of computer system board as the new engines; the newer engines have a system of blinking lights that can help diagnose a problem - this engine does not have that system. Thanks for input.

1. Slide the Command reverse unit switch to the PGM position.
2. Plug in and connect your Command Base.
3. Place your locomotive on the track, then power up the track.
4. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID#.
5. Press SET.
6. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID# again.
7. Press AUX1.
8. Enter 2 for this particular locomotive.
9. Turn off track power and wait ten seconds.
10. Slide the Command reverse unit switch back to the RUN position.

At this point, your locomotive has been reset.

Hello All,

I just had the opportunity to finally get down to the train room and to try out many of your suggestions. I tried the reset again to no avail. Then I turned the engine over and discovered the smoke unit was on the off position, I switched it to the on position, reset the engine again and the cab light started working properly as did everything else.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions; I have much gratitude for having access to so much knowledge and experience on this forum!

Kind Regards,

JohnJr
