The Boston Metro hi -railers had a very successful open house this month.  A huge turnout of modelers and young families turned out to produce the  greatest turnout in the club's history.  The event featured a special theme around the Presidential train travel in the 1930's to the 1960's and Obamas Inaugural car of 2009.  It featured FDR'S, TRUMAN, EISNHOWER,KENNEDY AND OBAMA'S TRAINS'  Included in the display was the Southern locomotive  used for FDR'S funeral and the railcar the Ferdinand Magellan used in Truman's "whistle stop campaign"

Railgon, I always send a good size release, with photos attatched to the local newspapers.  I am lucky that the local newspapers are a chain here that cover 10 communities.  The editor is very friendly so we get top coverage in both the weekly and daily newspapers in the area. In addition I put it in the Boston Globe.com which is an event setup and pay the extra $30 so that it is sent out on the internet.

Members of the forum post it on this here before the event.  I use the local cable tv channel for a free spot and I send a short notice to any newspaper groups, which we have a lot of in the area.  They wont run a full release but will put a notice of the event in their calendar. I also put one $300 ad in the newspaper that I mentioned earlier the week before the event.  Once a only once have I succeded in getting the Boston Globe to run in in their big regional Globe North, but that was a medium size story in what is essentially an event section of the paper.  All of that seems to work for me.  You can contact me on the clubs web page, officers listing.  I am Bob Hilliard, Vice President.

The club layout is the best in the area.  It was built and is run by some very smart people.  If anyone wants to view a layout properly built, go see this one.  Bob is the guy you want to talk to on how to get people involved and through the door at an open house.

This layout changes every time I visit.  I think they should have more open houses.  When I pulled into the parking lot I was shocked at the number of people present.  I feel the hobby is still growing and clubs like the Boston Metro Hi-Railers help promote the future of the hobby.

The club had trains for the big kids and trains for the little kids.  GREAT SHOW.
