The Canadian Toy Train association has been doing special runs of scale cars for several years. You can see some of the other runs on the club website and still find many at local model railway shops.

Sunset Models is manufacturing a prototypical scale length RDC-1 passenger Budd car in the British Columbia Railway two tone green colors for the Canadian Toy Train Association.  This very limited production “O” gauge Budd car comes in two numbers in both 2 and 3 rail.  Delivery is scheduled for summer 2015 with a run of about 20 units.

Former Pacific Great Eastern, then British Columbia Railway then becoming BC Rail had run RDC Budd cars for many years. There was a daily train from North Vancouver to Whistler and Lillooet along sheer rock walls and deep gorges over raging rivers; some stunning scenery. Then 3 times a week part of the train would run north from Lillooet climbing from river level to 2000 feet above the Fraser River on a stunning climb on the edge of a steep hill over the river, then north through the woods to Prince George over some real remote isolated scenery. Roughly a 500 mile trip. The Railway association chartered the train for a few special trips using the RDC's to 1000 miles north of Vancouver to Fort Nelson and side trips on on other remote parts of the BC Rail system, the tumbler ridge electrified line etc. some great trips. The RDC's had a great run. When the government shut down the very popular railway the Budd cars were sold off to many different railways in the US and Canada. A couple still run at the Railway museum in Squamish.

This special run will be popular with the local train club.

Sunset has done a great job of the model earlier runs were brass the rerun latest issues are detailed plastic bodies.
