C-420 light issue after L2RC upgrade

Are the lights LED or traditional incandescent? The flashing almost suggests the lights might be wired to the "feature" pin on the R2LC, which is used normally for a smoke unit or a flashing strobe. If this is the case, selecting a different AUX feature code when programming the engine, such as AUX1+6.

Thanks John for the quick reply!  The engine is "command read" so all I did was replace the e-unit board with the R2LC board.  The lights are all LEDs.  All the Lionel doc say use engine code 8 but I'm wondering if another code would work better...I can try 6!

(Note: I did not upgrade the sound so still signal sounds)

  Did you use a C08 board, if so you need a C07.

The outputs from the C08 board are inverted when compared to the C07 board.  That's why your LED's no longer work.  You can get the C07 board or flip the polarity of the LED wiring to fix the lights.

If you want one, I happen to have a C07 board...

Sorry for delay in my reply, wife's birthday dinner tonight!  I have a Dash 9 coming that I hope the C08 board will work in so yes I guess I need a C07.  I did notice that the upgrade kit called for the C08 but the engine parts break-out for the cmd versions used the C07.  Not knowing the difference (thanks for the insights!) I went with the C08.  

Is there a ref sheet that breaks out the different board characteristics??

Mike, I mis-spoke.  I used the last one in a repair, I thought I had one left.  I suspect Bill has one, or as I said, you can swap the polarity of the LEDs.

   I think you would be better off getting the C07 then swapping wires.
