Can an Atlas SW's exhaust stack be covered up? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have an Atlas Raritan River SW900 and I recently modified it to look more like an exact RRRR diesel. However I was wondering if the exhaust stack has any purpose or function. I covered it up with Lego pieces to create the spark arrester that the RR required. I never received a manual so I wouldn't know. Help would be appreciated.

My first thought is; does the model have a smoke unit? If not, then there should be no issues. Maybe you should look underneath and see if there is a "Smoke ON - OFF" switch.

Item 6111? Doesn't this have a horizontal motor, doubt if it has a smoke unit then. Nice unit.

The smoke stack piece can be removed or changed to the two stack SW 9 model.

There just isn't room for a smoke unit with the fully detailed cab.

The Burlington Route SW9 was a floor crash repair. Pictures of cab detail.
