I once had a Postwar 2025 locomotive that the previous operator set up so that when you activated the whistle button, it opened a coil activated coupler on the rear of the tender.

He removed the whistle from the tender, but kept the relay unit to activate the coupler. he swapped out the factory tender truck for a truck that already had the coil coupler on it.

Worked well.
