What I can tell you is that the tender dates to 1989. I suspect, given the wiring job of the engine itself, it it either from 1987 or 1989, as it was not in either the 1986 or 1988 catalogs, and is before the era of the circutboard reverse. A quick internet search shows that Lionel made this engine, with this number, in 1981 as the 8100. There may have been another locomotive made with this number in the late 80's, I don't know. There may have been some repairs performed that necessitated the replacement of the circuit board in the tender. I don't know. If we could see the box, that would help greatly.

Yep,That seems to be what it is.An #8100!!!It is a great engine.Got a SUPER deal on it.

It had about an inch of dust on it,but I saw the beauty underneath. All that dust preserved it well.It has a very unusual smoke unit, with tubes running down to simulate blowdown.I was told I would never find another one of those smoke units!!!

The smoke unit looks very similar to the one in the original #746,except for the added tubing going down and out the sides.

An  #8100!!!with antique railsounds!!!!SUPER!!!!Every once in a while you win on one!!!

Merry Christmas to me!!!!Thanks Guys!!!!
