Can’t Access Luci to Upgrade WIU Software

You need a laptop or tablet to log in. I had to do this with my WIU. I couldn't access LUCI with my desktop..............rogerw.

Can you see the WIU (when WIU is plugged into wall) on your laptop or tablet in the wireless section of your laptop/tablet?

Step 5 will not necessarily be possible if you've previously connected to the WIU in MTH mode on this PC. The PC will most likely remember the network connection. In this case, you should just skip step 5 altogether.

Next, you need to do step 6 from a PC's web browser. Open the web browser and wait for the home page to load. After it loads, delete the web address in the url address line and replace it with 192.168.143.1 and press ENTER or RETURN on your keyboard. That should get you to LuCI's home page.

Also, you will have real difficulty using a table to do this, since you have to be able to upload the firmware file, which can be problematical if you aren't using a PC (or Mac).

I can not access Step 5 of the directions.  If I enter the IP address as you suggest, my computer shows the connecting circle, but not happens even if I wait 5 minutes.

In tae case, you simply aren't connected to the WIU in MTH Mode. What makes you think that you are?

When I click on the icon that shows what access I am connected to, it says that I am connected to the WIU.  Namely, it shows that I am connected to MTH_DCS-XXXX.  When I connect to the WIU, the blue light does a lot of blinking and then stops when the connection is completed.

By any chance, do you also have an Ethernet cable plugged into your PC? If so, remove it before connection got the WIU.

No, I don't have an ethernet plugged in.

Perhaps if I try the entire process again using my wife's computer (Windows 7), that may make a difference.  Do you agree?

It certainly couldn't hurt.

The other thing that you could try would be to turn off WiFi on your PC and connect the WIU to the PC with an Ethernet cable, instead of steps 4 and 5.

I don't have all the documentation handy to check it, but wasn't there a capitalization typo in a password?

I tried to upgrade using my wife's Windows 7 computer, and I get the identical results.  I can connect to a wireless network with name MTH_DCS-XXXX.  But after connecting nothing happens.  I can not get to Step 5, as there is no screen that appears for me to enter the network key.

A week ago, I successfully upgraded my first WIU without a hitch.  This second WIU refuses to upgrade.  Is there any way to identify the code version of this WIU?

Is it possible that I have a bad WIU?  I can always send it back to the vendor.

As I said, just ignore the request for the key, skip step 5 and go on to opening the web browser in step 6.

If that doesn't work, i can't see what else could be wrong.

As a follow-up to this problem, I ended sending the WIU back to the service department of MTH.  They corrected the problem, and now everything is working as designed.  Many thanks to Barry and others who tried to help me solve the problem.  This forum is a great place to solicit advice.

Incidentally, from the time I mailed the unit to MTH until I received the unit back, the process took only 10 days.  Great service.

I can't tell you exactly what they did, except it was a software issue and not a hardware issue.
