If you have the DD Equalizer, it can be installed into a PS/1 locomotive to add command operation. You retain the PS/1 sounds and add TMCC command capability. I recommend you read the installation manual for the DD board that is in that thread to see what the installation process is.
The DD Equalizer is no longer available, and hasn't been for years. You'll have to find one on the used marked if you don't already have it.
The DD was great in it's day. Why screw with old outdated electronics.
I doubt you'll find one anyway, they seem to be snapped up when they come on the used market. I had a couple some time back. The only reason to use one is if you're in love with the PS/1 sound set. Otherwise, I'd rather have modern electronics too.
I wish I had 2, as I've got 2 PS-1 locomotives that there isn't a ERR sound set that I'd be happy replacing the PS-1 set with. Does anyone have a BOM and Gerber files for them? I know a guy that could spin me a couple.
I think there's zero chance of that. The only guy that I know that might have it is Ed Bender, he was Digital Dynamics. He closed the business several years back, and even then the Equalizer wasn't available.

Because the sound set in a particular PS-1 loco is better than the minimal available sets in Railsounds4.
