Had a great visit to the open house today at Chicagoland Lionel Railroad Club. These guys know how to through a Christmas party!!!! Trains running everywhere, Santa and his elf where there, food and drinks.

Top ten reasons this is a fun visit every time!!!! (Sorry Dave Letterman!)

10. Free parking (hey, for the Chicago area this is something special)

9. When you walk in you get to pull the whistle chain and blast a real train whistle!!!

8. For the kids they have dozens of step stools (trust this dad when I say this is a back saver!!)

7. On site repair shop

6. On site retail shop

5. Ten foot video screen showing great layout movies from the likes of OGR, TM Books, etc. Just in case all of the layouts on site don't take care of your fix!!

4. They have their own "restaurant" serving up hotdogs, FREE POPCORN, drinks, pizza, cookies and snacks. mmmmm good.

3. Three layouts. One traditional, one hi-rail, one traditional at kid height with Thomas and friends locos.

2. Buttons on the layouts that let the kids operated dozens of accessories!!!

1. Friendly members greeting all who come in and they provide great information to new visitors so they know what is available and where to find it!!

Sounds like they had all the bases covered for that open house. Your list covered a lot of ground. Very well thought out and organized. Good ideas for the kids. Good pics too, looks like a very nice place there.

The free parking is a deal there. I haven't been to Chicago for over 20 years, but even beck then it I think it was about a week's pay to park anywhere downtown.

I am a member of this club and want to thank you for the high praise you have offered. Hopefully in the future we will meet.

I am glad you have taken a lot of pictures as there will be a major rebuild starting next spring. We have morphed from a modular club to a permanent one now. Modular takes a lot of work, no one should downplay that. I believe a permanent one allows more interaction between the trains and people. Isn't that the goal?

Thank again
