while posting another reply to a thread I thought about something else and decided to start a new one instead..

what do anyone think of these steam locomotives fitted with the coffin feedwaters and low headlight mountings altogether? under low lights I think they could look like hooded assassins if you follow me there

Doesn't look like the dog is too afraid of it, although he is keeping his distance.  I guess he is trying to get his post graduate degree in chasing cars. The Denver and Salt Lake used Mikados with coffin feedwater heaters, and I would like one, but it will never happen in three rail.  I think MTH, Third Rail, somebody? did some Berkshires in three rail for a northeastern road that had coffin feedwater heaters.

K-Line made a Berkshire with this feature. As I understand it they subsequently modified the mold for a different version leaving the coffin-style units a one-time thing.

In the Lionel 2013 Signature catalog, 3 of the Legacy Berkshires offered had the Coffin FWH's. The B&M was the only NE road name, they also offered Santa Fe, and SP, which IIRC, got 10 from the B&M.
