Well, seeing that Bachmann is the only company offering On30 starter sets, that sort of limits the choices.

That said, the set has a conventional DC 2-6-0 that is practically bullet-proof.  No fancy electronics, no sound. (Although Bachmann recently announced DCC/optional sound separate sale 2-6-0's.)  The 2-6-0 runs well.  Bachmann's EZ track is OK and the power pack is pretty decent.  The set will run on any HO track.

The loco and tender are plastic and it is possible to break off some of the free standing details with rough handling.  Couplers are McHenry HO and set at the HO coupler height.

Overall, it's a good set to start with.

I do not have any experience with the set in question, but I did dabble in Bachmann On30 for a few years, and I did own one of the 2-6-0 locomotives.  It was a very nice runner, very nicely detailed, but as Rusty said, very delicate to handle.  I wouldn't want children handling it, nor old guys with arthritis like me.  lol

I owned a Bachmann 2-6-0, Shay, and Climax.  The Climax was the only one with sound.  It sounded great to me.  I was impressed with the detail and running of all three.

i don't know what cars are in the set, but I found all Bachmann's rolling stock I owned  be very nicely detailed and tracked well.

All in all, when I decided to sell my On30 and concentrate only in 3 rail, I was not ashamed to ask for a "like new" price.  I had no trouble selling any of it, if that says anything.
