Kind of fun for me to see Valpo mentioned here. That's where I grew up. Tall tree is a neat place and a very nice garden railway to boot. If you like the outdoors, this would be an interesting way to spend the summer.

Two hobby shops you could visit in Valpo at one time. As mentioned Valpo Pet and Hobby, which is where I got my start in O gauge. Pet and Hobby was my Madison Hardware. I just spent the afternoon with the former owner a few weeks ago who is still a good friend. I consider myself lucky that even though the shop is gone that we have remained in touch. I also have many of the original Lionel signs from Pet and Hobby in my train room.

A second shop was Samuelson's Nursery out on route 2. Max was an MTH retailer for a number of years and also active in G scale. The shop also closed a few years back.

Sadly there is nothing left in Valpo for a local hobby store. My heart still aches a bit when I drive through downtown when I am visiting my parents, I can still see the white and orange Pet and Hobby sign above the door.
