I'm new to tinplate and am using a MTH Z-1000 to run a small oval of new issue 260-E and freight. I'm getting another set and have a Lionel CW80... I'm sure I read some place that the Lionel transformer is not compatable with MTH 2.0 and 3.0 Am I wrong or can I use it on a separate oval... Thanks

I have had some issues with a CW80 and PS2 & PS3. Some have said it works OK. MTH has it on the list of "not compatible with PS" transformers.
I would recommend another Z-1000. Use the CW80 for accessories and lighting. It's a great transformer and I really like the acc settable voltage feature. And it works great for my non-PS trains!

THANKS
wolffeone,
Ed is giving you good advise, use the Z-1000 or if you want to add additional power in a cost effective manner, pick up an old ZW and place 7-10Amp Breakers between the transformer and the TIU Channels.
Have fun!

CW-80 + PS locomotives = not a good combination, and not recommended.
DITTO on the MTH Z-1000 - a VERY dependable power unit.
The "brick" transformer may also be separately mated with the "DCS Commander" for DCS "lite" operation.
