I just picked up a pair of David O King 3 rail "O" gauge GE trucks, twin power.

They are Walthers #2164. The newspaper packed around the trucks date to 1974.

I don't think the trucks were ever used or installed, but one of the trucks needs a part.

These trucks have a can motor with a plastic worm gear driving one axle with the matching gear mounted in the center.

A plastic chain runs between the axles (on gears)  to drive the second axle.

Both trucks are motorized.

The chain on one of the trucks is damaged, and a section seems to be missing, it is too short.

Anybody know where I might find a chain to fit these old power trucks?

Not sure if this is the right place, since I'm new to OGRforum, but I have DOK truck problems, too, and I'll be grateful for any savvy experience.

I've now got 5 David O King trolleys for my fantasy line (the Providence Attleboro Fall River Electric Railway), but they all have serious mechanical problems. The 16 tooth axle pinion gear is loose or missing on most, and the center rail pickup rollers are dodgy at best.

Can anyone suggest effective fixes?  Sources of gears??  Is it safe to pull DOK wheels???

I've thought of replacing the whole drive chassis with a Bowser or MTH or some such, but most of the DOKs have heavy cast chassis, which don't seem easy to modify.

Thanks,  Bill

I've been poking around the internet. It looks like the sprockets and drive chain may be the same as what is currently offered by Grandt Line. I guess I will order some, and find out.

The trucks I have are NOS. I don't see how they could ever be used, It seems to me that the collector roller and drive chain will interfere with each other when it's on the rails.

Anybody ever use a set of these trucks?

The Grandt Line drive chain arrived. It appears to be identical to the chain that came with my David O King power trucks.
I added a section of the Grandt Line chain to the damaged chain that came with my trucks, also replacing a couple of damaged links.
The truck runs now.

I guess you have to cock the collector roller to one side to actually run them.

I have an NOS, unbuilt Walthers gas electric (interurban) kit to go with the trucks. Maybe I'll actually build it.

Maybe the gears that Bill needs for his trolleys are off the shelf too.
