This may be a statement of the obvious, but ... I recently purchased a Proto 3 SW-1 (30-20149-1, MR) and finally have some track wired for DCS. I thought I'd test the track and the engine, but there is no DCS/DCC switch on the bottom of the engine. The on-line owners manual says there should be, but all I have is an empty slot. Probably needless to say, the engine remains dark and the DCS remote says there is no engine to be found.  I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Thank you. That's a relief; I was thinking the worst.  I have a PS2 engine, but the remote can't find it, either.  I am actually having a boatload of issues. A few days ago, I upgraded my DCS and remote from 3.1 (it had been in storage since 2010) to the current version (that was a hoot!).  I've wired the Z4000 to the TIU (fixed 1 in and out) and then to a terminal block and the feeders - 3 so far - to the track. I'm powering the TIU with an external source as it doesn't seem to be getting power from the Z4000. I am now getting the overload light every time I try to power up. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks very much.

The system can't work if there's no power getting to the track. I'm surprised it said no engine found?

Anyways, try hooking your Z4000 to a single piece of track and see if it will stay on. You could proceed from there.

You'll have to find the short by removing things unless it's obvious?
