In preparation for the long awaited premium version of Wifi DCS I wanted to check the following situation: I have whisker tracks for my turntable. With the remote I highlight the engine I want on the inactive list then as soon as I turn on the track power that the engine is sitting on I select the engine from my inactive list so the engine doesn't turn on, or in worst case, go flying.
How do I do the same with the wifi app? In the engine list you can only select 'active' engines.

In the engine list you can only select 'active' engines.
That's incorrect.
You can select any engine in the DCS App's engine list, active or inactive, just as with the remote.

Really? What am I missing? I am sitting here with my iPhone open and if its in the active list then it goes to the operation screen. If it's in the inactive list I can't select it.

Happens the same on my Samsung note 5
The engines in the Inactive list must be on powered tracks to be moved to the Active list and then selected, just like with the DCS Remote.
