Most of us have used this expression in jest as an excuse for something we have done. For me, it was certainly not the devil, but actually a Forum member. Let me explain.

This week a member posted photos of his train station area that is part of his fabulous layout. It immediately brought back memories and provoked this thread. Several years ago, I was fortunate to visit this layout. Photos simply do not do it justice. This member and his wife were terrific hosts and during my tour of his layout, he said you being a big passenger train fan, I want to show you something. He reached under his layout and pulled out a box containing a 21" K-Line passenger car. He opened the box to show me a Sante Fe Hi-Level passenger car and asked if I had seen one of these before. I had not but just loved what I was looking at for the first time. This one event started a multi-year search for this set. This beautiful set is now on our layout, but it all started with my visit to this Forum member's home. So I cannot blame the devil for this one, but a Forum member that had everything to do with it. The Forum member, our very own Alan Arnold.

How about you, do you have a story you can share with us where you can squarely put the blame on someone else for an acquisition to your layout. Should be fun to learn of your stories.

Yes PTC....I was strictly a NYC 1880-1910 3-railer...then 2 years ago, TexSpecial got me interested in the Neil Young set which resulted in the purchase of 2 other variants, Lee Willis got me interested in Williams trains, and you got me interested in other road names by Lionel and MTH.

You guys owe me money!

;p

That's true...I forgot about Allan!

His Editorial about when he read the Lionel "All Aboard" book on Lionel trains in Hawaii one Christmas, and how he ran out and bought his first o gauge sets was not only an awesome editorial, but probably responsible for at least a million dollars in train purchases that Christmas season!

I looked past passenger equipment and tried to stay focused on freight.

Posts from you guys here got me looking at this stuff. Of course when I bought my first O scale MTH Amtrak engine and car set, I had to start looking at some for my G scale too.

You guys are bad!!!! Now look what U did!

BTW. I need the wave scheme now! and a bigger station. and space for the station, platforms, and a passenger yard. and the new G scale MTH Amtrak. and the cars to go with it. and some of those K-line superliners. and more for the grandkids. and.....

Just saw this thread as it has been a very busy day!!

Yep...I remember the great time we had having Brian as our guest.  I never imagined that showing him those beautiful Hi-Level cars would result in him going on a multi-year search to obtain them.  Since he has been here, a lot of work has been completed on the layout and my set of cars looks almost as good as his running down the track....here they are:

Below is a re-post of my reply to a similar thread back in July, and it still continues to hold true!!

I blame this forum, and all of it's members for a majority of my model train purchases.  Yes, all of you, you who post your stinking pictures and videos.  Some of the items I previously had no interest in, but I was tricked into buying them because of your nefarious descriptions and scarcity tactics.  I am the victim here!!

Almost from the beginning, with the first few people I met from this forum, I was coerced and  dazzled by their operating layouts and engines I didn't know existed.  I don't know why you all felt the need to take advantage of me and my love for this hobby!!

Because of this treachery I am now unable to focus on any particular railroad or era.  I uncontrollably buy what I like, and items I think I'll like.  Catalogs are the drugs that now also feed the addiction.

Scandalous creatures, all of you!!

On the initial visit I had with someone on this forum, I was dazzled by a locomotive I had never seen or heard of before.  I was tricked to the point I made phone calls all over the country to find one.  I located one while on a Spring Training baseball vacation with my wife.  She said if you found it, go get it!  And of course, I had to over pay for this, at the time, rare wonderful piece of machinery.

The locomotive?  A MTH Premier Erie Triplex in Russian Blue.  He knows who he is!!

Brian, I read your comment the last time you posted it and this time, it is even funnier to me, but it is riddled with truth. As a side note, it took me some time to find the Erie Triplex as well. You have impeccable taste in equipment.

Alan, what a treat it is to see these marvelous Sante Fe Hi-Levels on your layout.

Thanks to all of you for your remarks and stories. And Charlie, no chance.

I have to place the blame for my purchase of  Atlas' Gulf Mobile & Ohio F3s squarely behind the photographic lens of Mr. Sam Hopkins.  After months (years?) of seeing pictures in Weekend Photo Fun of his GM&O AAs  rolling behind the beautiful backdrops on his layout, I caught the bug and started searching until I finally located a pair.  Thanks a lot Sam!

- Mike

They warned us in grade school about the dangers of peer pressure. I always thought they were talking about pot, turns out it was O scale passenger cars I should have been leery of.....

Alan is also the reason the K-Line Santa Fe hi-level are on my layout....seeing just how grand they are over and over...the pressure was more than I could take.

Brain you're also in this same position as tempter of great looking cars, there is a California Zephyr set here directly because of you!

You fellas know how to turn it up too...with your "Weekend Photo Fun" chamber of horrors week after week of eye popping O scale goodness....

Vernon Hart is my "devil" here in Springfield, MO. He designed both of my layouts for me and he is always thinking about improving my layout,,,,or as we call him here in town "Mr. Cha ching"....his "improving of my layout" always cost more $$$$.

But we love him as he is an ole' FRISCO conductor and he keeps our layouts "prototypical".
