I am purchasing Glenn Snyder shelves in the Spring at York.

I am trying to figure out how many to buy.

For those of you with Glenn Snyder shelving already, could you post a picture of your setup and state the distance between shelves?

I run Standard and O Gauge, so both would be very helpful.

I've done 4 1/2", 5", and 5 1/2" depending on wall space, and how many shelves will fit in my particular space. I actually like the 4 1/2" spacing the best, because it eliminates any extra wall space between trains. The shelves are thin so it makes the trains really stand out.

 

This is 5 1/2" from the top of the rail to the bottom of the next shelf above.

Since you also run Std Gauge you should allow a minimum of 10" between your shelves. It depends upon what series of cars you will be running, passenger or freight. If by any chance you will be using your shelves for early Lionel 10 or 100 series you will need to allow more room. I'd allow no less than 11.50" for the older freight cars. I do not use the Snyder shelves myself. You might should ask this question again in the Tinplate Forum.

I use Glenn Snyder Shelves with 6" spacing between the O Gauge shelves.  This will allow you to display crane cars and have the crane elevated a bit.  On the combo O/STD/LGB shelves I leave 6.5" between the shelves.  Also, if you are going to display the MTH Coors Silver Bullet set, the loco will not sit on the O Gauge shelf correctly because of the "fenders" on the sides of the loco.  The combo shelves work fine for this application.  To prevent a disaster when adding or removing trains to the shelves be sure to order the rail stops or the rail end stops.
