I have an MTH Premier New Haven  DL-109 "The Cranberry." I was wondering if anyone on this forum would know where this train went to from Boston.  What was the consist?  I want to have it prototypically correct. I think I heard it went to Cape Cod at one point. Finding info is very difficult. I have the book New Haven Trackside by Thomas J. McNamara and Jeremy F. Plant. Not one bit of info in all those wonderful pictures of the DL-109's concerning "The Cranberry." Any information would be greatfuly appreciated.

"The Cranberry" ran from Boston to Hyannis, MA.  DL109 0722 was painted red in 1949 and remained so until December 1953.  It was the only DL109 painted red.  The 0722 would run in regular service during the off-season

There were no dedicated cars to "The Cranberry."  Consists would be usually be around 6 of the 8200 "American Flyer" cars.  The train length would vary depending on the time of the summer season when the train ran.

There was a proposal to paint 8200 series coaches to match, but it was tuned down.

 To be prototypically correct. The NH only had A units. No B's. MTH forces you to buy both as a set. One engine should be sufficient for this train. If another unit was needed. You will need to find a green and gold version. Luckily these were sold as single units in 3 Rd. Nos. . It may take some searching but they are out there.

 I've seen photos of this engine being used in fan trips. Probably in the off season. The Cranberry from Boston to Hyannis was only run in the summer months.  Just add some white flags to the front and run it as an extra. You could then change the consist up a bit. Still you would be limited to before 1953. It was then repainted. Not sure when it was inaugurated. The older green Weaver or new Atlas Flyer coaches are your best bet. You can buy just singles. GGD offered heavyweight coaches. Only available as a 4 car set. Weaver offered NH baggage and RPO's. All are full scale length cars.

The Milwaukee Road also had two DL-109's, both "A" units.  Curiously, they were both number #14, one 14A the other 14B, and at first they were run as a pair on their bet trains.  Shortly thereafter they received their first EMD units, E-6 "A" units again, numbered 15A and 15B.  After a while, they would use the DL-109's individually, in service for second class trains.  They were never as well received as the EMD's were.

Thank you everyone who wrote about this beautiful engine. I have decided to to put my K-Line 21" New Haven aluminum six car set behind the MTH DL-109 A unit. I may just put the B on it as well, just to see if anyone notices. I love the sound set on this engine. The Public Announcement is awesome. "Now arriving from Boston on track one. The Cranberry." That says it all.
