You might consider the Cruise Commander Lite for this upgrade.  It's suitable for smaller units, I suspect this qualifies.  I have the CC-Lite running my upgraded O-Gauge Polar Express with ten passenger cars, it has no problem with them and it's run for hours without a hiccup.

I would expect the new RailSounds Commander would fit with the CC-Lite from looking at Carl's picture.

You did not say which generation of Geep you have.
If it is the later type with the vertical motor this is a conversion that will fit.

The one I got is from 2007 and I should see it this week thanks for the photo Carl.  Yes John. I was thinking about the cruise lite option I just wasn't sure how much real estate I have under the hood. In this case I'm glad there is only one motor!

When I was on the ERR website years ago and purchased the kit for the MTH Signalman car, I thought ERR had a list of the Steam and Diesel sounds that one could list to in order to determine which one would go best with an upgrade. I have not been able to find this. Do they not have this?

Joe Gozzo

They do Joe.  Click on Railsounds commander then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Ordering information". That will bring you to a list of sounds and prices.

Chris,

The Cruise Lite with the new ERR sound board will fit in the GP with the horizontal motor also. I have one of these Flyonel GPs which I had converted to TMCC with a Mini-2. For better low speed performance I upgraded to the Cruise Lite along with the Railsounds Commander. It is a tight fit but with some planning it works out fine and these new sounds boards are fantastic. You will need to purchase a separate speaker, the Fat Boy that comes with the sound unit will not fit. If you need info on the speaker I can get you that. I can pull the shell from my conversion and shoot a picture if that would help, but what Carl is showing looks close to what I have.

Yes Ray that would be helpful I was wondering how the speaker would work out and where to put it. I assume the sound the sound transmits thru the body OK?

Good to know, I know that the horizontal motors in a lot of Atlas stuff really limits what you can put into them. I'll bet it's a pretty tight fit.

Chris,

I will attempt to add the picture, the white object on the right is the speaker. The speaker measures 5/8" w X 1 3/8 high, and has an enclosure made out of .030  styrene plastic. It is an 8 ohm 2w speaker. I will have to look up where the speaker came from, I know I purchase a number of them on the internet.

The picture is perfect. It looks snug but it can be done.

Chris,  The speaker I used I am reasonably sure came from DigiKey, probably one of these:

GC0351N-ND

GC0351M-ND

These are rated 1 watt
