Does anyone model the current Conrail system?

 

According to the Conrail website it is still a viable railroad system. See http://www.conrail.com/

"Conrail is a service provider for CSX Corporation and Norfolk Southern Corporation"

 

Does anyone model the Conrail system today?

 

On my layout the rolling stock shown are part of a Conrail MOW consist that will be used with a CSX GP30 that is on loan to Conrail.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Conrail today just use motive power from it's parent companies CSX and Norfolk Southern?  Apart from that, the only only other rail equipment they own is MOW-related as I understand it.

 

So I think that if anyone is operating "current-day" Conrail would just be hauling trains that use either CSX or NS power (including any leased locomotives by those two companies).

Comment: All "revenue" rolling stock would likely be repainted with either CSX or NS logos. Only MOW equipment would likely remain as CR equipment.

I seriously doubt that, as I'll bet "Conrail" doesn't even have any employees, except maybe an attorney or two. Both CSX and NS are maintaining their own trackage, with their own equipment and employees.

Conrail exists as sudsidary of CSX and NS. They have their own employees with their own union agreements. Depending on the craft that your in NS or CSX will train you. For example NS handle conductor/engineer training and CSX does the track worker/mow training. NS handles the payroll. Depending on the yard location CSX and NS brings in the inbound train and then pulls the outbound. Conrail crews work the yards and switch tne industries.

One bet that you'll come up short on. Click on the Conrail link posted above and you will see all sort of Conrail Employee benefits. When NS and CSX took over the Employees in the shared assets areas had to decide to work for NS, CSX, or Conrail. I would have stayed with Conrail but that wasn't a choice for Harrisburg.

The E8 locomotives from the former Conrail Executive Train were overhauled and repainted to the PRR single stripe paint scheme by the Juniata Terminal Company.  They now pull the company's private passenger cars, and can be seen on special excursion trains.
