Double-Truck Birney Safety Car

I decided I needed a double-truck Birney to go along with my single-truck ones. I spliced together two Lionel trolleys to get the 12-window version operated by the Connecticut Company between Torrington and Winsted. You can see the seam but hopefully it's not the first thing you notice. The ventilators, lettering, and underbody are from Q-Car, which had the details for this specific car (two of the three have survived in museums). The trucks are from an old Industrial Rail unit that no longer worked. I know it's not brass, but I'm happy to have it.

That is an outstanding conversion! You get points. Those old Industrial rail trolleys were a bargain at fifty bucks.

I wish more of us would get into kit-bashing, kit building and scratch building traction models. It's a great way to get models of the exact car you want as Bruce has so nicely shown us. Right now, I'm in the process of building an Albany 4 wheel car, using a motor truck from an O-Line speeder. I work slowly, but I'll post some photos when it's finished. Good on 'ya, Bruce. Nice job!
