I'm still trying to find a motor for this engine, MTH 30-1113-0. does anyone know of a substitute motor for it, or how to get the flywheel and worm gear off? I'd rather find the whole motor but that doesn't look like it is going to happen.
Thanks!

Can you tell me what the length of the worm gear is? It looks like the motor has been replaced once already, as it has protosounds two tach stripes. I may have the same motor you show, which is not the original BE-0000015.
Oh that's right, It has been converted to PS-2 if I remember your first post.
Yes it is a converted to PS2 but is the original PS1 motor. Not sure if conversions will shorten their life or not, never really thoght about that. I figure I shold have some tach tape from one of my other conversions I can use on the new motor. I've converted about 5 engines and have no Proto 1's left!
The worm is 5/8" long from tooth to tip. the entire geared shaft is 1 1/8" long.
Thanks foir any help you can provide.

Have you contacted MTH for the part yet?
Yes, they said it is no longer available and if I can't find it I can send it to them and they can try to match it up with something but "no promises". As a last resort I'll go that route.
Frank Timko at timko repair depot is very helpful with these kinds of things.
He replaced a motor in a Lionel steam engine for me and even transferred the tach reader to the new motor.
Here is the one I have. The worm gear is the same measurements you gave. The pitch looks the same from the pictures. The motor has the flywheel striped and the tach sensor bracket. What do you think?
I think it's worth a shot. Let me know how much and how to get payment to you and let's make a deal!
Thanks!
