Ben,

Maybe I have a couple of wonky motors, but even with them being properly adjusted and lubricated with powdered Teflon (I picked that up from one of your posts several years ago) still need about 15 volts (I just put on the digital volt meter) to throw 100% of the time. (My DZ-1000's are probably 5 - 10 years old and I don't recall which ones were purchased when.)

Have y'all measured the output on the club's Z4000 14 volt fixed ports?  I would be interested in knowing what voltage the switchs actually throw at?

On my MRC Dual, the 14V fixed voltage is actually 13.8 volts without any trains running.  With one train running, the fixed voltage drops to 13.6 volts, and with two trains running, it drops to 13.4 volts.

Why can't I just find more low-profile K-line O27 42" switches!?!   Sounds like it would be SO much easier and I KNOW how to work with them!

BTW: I looked at the bay as someone suggested but didn't find anything.  I keep hoping though.  You know, the proverbial 'someday'.

Thanks Ben and Jim for the comments on the voltage and how to care for the DZ1000 if I go that route.

Thanks to others for their comments about their personal experiences with these machines.  Sad in a way since Ross switches as so well respected inside this hobby.

Walt,

I think you would be pleased with the Ross turnouts with the DZ-1000's!

You will find that they work great and if you ever have a problem Steve is great to deal with.

This topic was pretty timely for me as well.  I am considering TMCC or Legacy as an upgrade when I rebuild my layout.  If I want to have the command control the switches instead of wiring each on to a master panel, I would have to upgrade all of my DZ-1000's to DZ-2500's.  At this point, however, I'm thinking that even if I add command to my layout, I likely will stay with the DZ-1000's and wire them to a master panel.
